FAQs about Insurance

Which Plans Do You Accept?

I am currently in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna.  Many plans will cover nutrition counseling at 100%, however benefits must be verified.

What If I Don't Have Insurance?

I offer self-pay rates and package pricing that is discounted because I believe everyone should have access to good nutrition.  Pricing can be found under the "Services" tab.

Do I Need A Referral?

A referral from your doctor is required if you reside in Tennessee, however it is a simple process. Ask your doctor to fax a referral to (855) 239-8430 or you can provide them my referral form HERE.

How Do I Find Out If I Have Benefits For Nutrition Coverage?

Call the 1-800 number on the back of your insurance card and ask the agent.  Alternatively, many insurance companies now have all of your benefits and coverage details online which makes it easy to check.  Look for words and phrases such as "nutrition or dietary counseling."  For detailed instructions on how to verify nutrition coverage and benefits, see my step-by-step instructions HERE

What Forms Of Payment

Do You Accept?

Payment is simple.  I require a credit card on file for all clients, whether you are cash pay or I am billing your insurance. This is to cover incidentals such as co-pays, cancellation fees and extra services such as my menu planning service.  All information entered into Healthie is HIPPA compliant, secure and encrypted. You are welcome to use your FSA or HSA card.  Just enter the card information into your Healthie profile.

Registered Dietitian

vs. Nutritionist?

While the titles sound similar, a registered dietitian is a protected title and a credentialed professional.  An RD must have a master's degree, complete an accredited 1200 hour supervised practice program and pass a rigorous national examination.  In contrast, anyone can call themselves a nutritionist – including the guy at the gym who took a 1-day course! Only dietitians have the background to apply nutrition therapeutically.
